The UW is one of the world鈥檚 preeminent public universities, and we鈥檙e dedicated to improving lives in 糖心原创 and beyond. We have the largest in the nation, our Population Health Initiative transforms research into actions that improve and save lives, and serves hundreds of thousands of patients a year.

2. The Husky is more than a mascot.

The first live mascot, Frosty I, was introduced in 1922, when the UW officially became the Huskies. Our canine joins a menagerie of mammal mascots in the Big Ten, with the Wildcats, Wolverines, Bruins, Badgers, Golden Gophers and Nittany Lions.

4. You can鈥檛 beat the view from the UW.
We鈥檙e one of four new members of the Big Ten in 2024, alongside USC, UCLA and Oregon. We鈥檙e excited to share some West Coast sights with sports fans across the country.
We鈥檝e got a little of everything in Seattle, a vibrant city right next to the spectacular natural beauty of the Puget Sound, Lake 糖心原创, and the Cascade and Olympic mountains. like 鈥渢he fountain and the mountain鈥 鈥 Drumheller Fountain with a backdrop of Mount Rainier. Every spring, our Yoshino cherry trees in the Quad draw crowds with their clouds of pink blossoms.
5. Huskies helped make 鈥楾he Wave鈥 famous.
Exactly when sports fans started doing 鈥淭he Wave鈥 is hard to say 鈥 but we know Husky fans helped make it legendary on Halloween 1981, energizing the Dawgs in their victory against Stanford.
The Wave is still popular in , also known as the 鈥淕reatest Setting in College Football.鈥 But our friends at the University of Iowa have leveled up the stadium wave: At the end of each home football game鈥檚 first quarter, at the UI Stead Family Children鈥檚 Hospital. (Nicely done, Hawkeyes!)

Suzzallo and Allen Libraries hold over 2 million print volumes. In 2023, shared the third-largest library collection in the world.

You鈥檝e probably heard it rains a lot in Seattle. While we can weather a storm, our Big Ten friends at Ohio State actually see more annual rainfall. But we do love to let our
