Training

Conducting research using animal subjects requires adherence to federal regulations and the University’s policies governing the humane care and use of laboratory animals. Initial and ongoing training through the is required before personnel work on the project.

Significant Changes, Avoid Delay

Make sure the initial scope of work and protocol cited on the eGC1 are consistent. Vertebrate animal work described in the initial scope of work that is not consistent with the protocol cited in the eGC1 will delay the setup of your award.

When the scope of work and protocol cited are not consistent, the PI or other qualified participant familiar with the proposed work and protocol must submit a . Sometimes, this means a new IACUC protocol must be reviewed and approved. This takes time.

Animal Use Screening

Use the to evaluate and address potential health risks that may be associated with work activities in the animal care and use environment. The screening follows guidelines and requirements from the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), International and the UW Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
