Grants Management for Investigators
Course Description
The Grants Management for Investigators (GMI) training provides an overview of the grants management process at the 糖心原创, from preparation of proposals to fiscal report preparation through final audit. The focus is on PI roles and responsibilities for administering sponsored agreements, highlighting established policies and procedures, with an overview of the central support services available at the UW.
Who is required to take this training?
All 糖心原创 principal investigators (faculty and non-faculty) who apply for or receive externally funded grants or contracts are required to attend the workshop initially with a refresher every four years thereafter.聽 (More frequent attendance is encouraged to remain current with significant changes in sponsored program policy.) This opportunity聽is open to all eligible persons regardless of race, sex or other identity.
Summary of the requirement
The Office of the Provost requires GMI training of all UW faculty members and non-faculty principal investigators who receive externally funded grants or contracts to cover the management of research activities which occur under increasingly complex regulations by funding agencies, and federal and state governments.
Grants Management for Investigators First Time Requirement
Audience:聽New principal investigators and non-PIs actively seeking funding, who have yet to attend a Grants Management for Investigators workshop
- Faculty and non-faculty who submit a proposal as UW Principal Investigator for the first time must attend a live or recorded workshop within twelve months of submitting the proposal via SAGE, if they have not attended one previously. First-time PIs are strongly encouraged to attend a workshop before submitting the proposal.
- The live workshop is offered once per year in the fall.
- Through the rest of the year, PIs can meet their attendance requirement by viewing a previously recorded session.
- More frequent attendance is encouraged to remain current with significant changes in sponsored program policy.
Grants Management for Investigators Online Refresher
Audience:聽Principal investigators who have previously attended an in-person workshop
- After the initial attendance at an in-person workshop, all principal investigators are required to renew their training every four years by either completing the online refresher or attending the in-person workshop.
- The online refresher highlights compliance requirements, new federal and state regulations, and recent changes to research infrastructure and policy. The material is organized into required and optional modules; the entire course will take no more than forty-five minutes.
Receiving Course Credit
Completion records for the online options are downloaded from the learning management system monthly and manually loaded into MyResearch Training Transcript. It can take up to a month for your GMI completion record to show up in MRTT.
